Before You Start: Prep Your Nails

Winter can be cold and dry, which doesn’t do your skin or nails any favors. Winter nails can be flaky, brittle, and hard to manage, especially with frequent hand washing to keep germs at bay. To combat dryness, it’s important to care for your nails by keeping your hands moisturized, and prepping your nails before you apply polish. Taking good care of your nails helps to prevent breakage and hangnails, but also helps to keep your polish on longer.

1. Simple Gold or Silver

For a classic but eye-catchy festive look, go for monochrome gold of silver nails. Gold is a classic choice, but silver gives you a more modern look. This look is the simple but gorgeous!

  1. Apply a Smoothing Base Coat to clean, dry nails
  2. Apply two coats of Gold Foil Nail Polish or '67 Silver Nail Polish. Wait for it to dry in between coats application.
  3. Finish the look with a layer of Quick Dry Top Coat

Bonus idea: Mix and match silver and gold by applying one shade to each nail.

2. Elegant Black & Gold

One of our all-time favorite nail designs is this asymmetrical Art Deco-inspired black and gold nail art. While this design might look complicated, it’s super simple to do and doesn’t require any special tools. Here’s how to achieve this look:

  1. Apply a Smoothing Base Coat to clean, dry nails
  2. Using our Gold Foil Nail Polish, create mountains starting halfway down the nail. Use the tip of the brush to create the peeks, then pull the brush straight down to the tip. Allow this coat to dry completely
  3. Using Midnight Red Nail Polish, repeat the process of creating mountains, starting below the gold layer and leaving a strip of gold mountains visible above the black
  4. Finish the look with a layer of Quick Dry Top Coat

3. Santa Claus Half-Moons

If your favorite part of Christmas is the tree, the presents, and Santa Claus, you’ll fall in love with these half-moon nails in red! Half-moon nails have been a popular nail art trend since the 1920s, and are super simple to do yourself. The half-moon refers to a crescent of negative space carved out of the polish by the cuticle. By leaving negative space, you create a beautiful two-toned look. To get that Santa Claus vibe, we recommend the shade Bésame Red, which is rich, bright, and super opaque.

Note: To achieve this look, you’ll need a sheet of hole-punch reinforcement stickers. These tiny stick-on circles make it super easy to carve out negative space on the nail.

  1. Apply a Smoothing Base Coat to clean, dry nails
  2. Stick a hole-punch sticker to your finger at the cuticle so that the sticker covers the little “moon” on your nail
  3. Apply a coat of Bésame Red to the nail, then immediately remove the sticker. If you see any smearing, use a little nail polish remover on a q-tip to clean up. Allow to dry completely
  4. Finish the look with a layer of Quick Dry Top Coat
Bonus idea: add a little spark with Gold Foil Nail Polish in the half-moon area.

    4. Red-Ribbon French Tips

If you love the look of French tips but want to play around with brighter nail colors, you’ll adore this next look. This is a spin on the half and half vintage inspired nails. By using two different shades of red, this nail art looks like two ribbons crossing over your nail tip. Lovely on medium to long nails, this look is another that requires no special tools and can be done fairly quickly.

    1. Apply a Smoothing Base Coat to clean, dry nails
    2. Using the shade Carmine, apply nail polish to half of the tip of your nail, then allow the polish to dry
    3. Using the shade Cherry Red, apply polish to the other half of your nail tip, overlapping the colors in the center. Allow this to dry fully
    4. Finish the look with a layer of Quick Dry Top Coat

    5. Star In the Sky

If you are looking for a more moody, romantic take on holiday glam, try out this simple but super pretty nail art. This look is inspired by the night sky during Winter, which is often filled with glittering stars. This look can also easily be worn for New Year’s Eve since it has all the romance and glamour you crave for your end-of-year outfit. Here’s how to get this look:

    1. Apply a Smoothing Base Coat to clean, dry nails
    2. Apply an even coat of Midnight Red, then allow to dry completely
    3. Dab a few drops of ‘67 Silver onto a plastic cap, plate, mixing tablet, or something you don’t mind getting dirty. Using a super-fine-tipped brush or a toothpick, carefully paint little plus signs onto your nails. The vertical lines should be longer than the horizontal lines, but don’t stress about perfection. Allow to dry completely
    4. Finish the look with a layer of Quick Dry Top Coat
