In the month of August, I went to Chicago for my mom’s birthday, took all 4 of our cats to their annual vet check ups and did a massive amount of makeup in between. No doubt; I get tired. Really tired. But I never get tired of doing makeup. I know that those in the beauty or wedding industry can empathize right now so I see you, I feel you and I raise a glass of something to you!
These products have given me moments of joy throughout the month of August so of course I’m sharing them with you.
elf Sheer Slick Lipstick
Depending on how old you are, you might remember the iconic Clinique Almost Lipstick in Black Honey. If you just got all nostalgic, you’re going to want to grab the elf Sheer Slick Lipstick in Black Cherry. It reminds me a lot of Black Honey and is just enough color, without being too lipsticky. Oh and it’s $6, compared to $20 for Clinique.
NYX On the Rise Mascara
No one talks about this mascara, and that, my friends, is a damn shame. It’s stiff wand is perfect for pushing the lashes up and the spiky comb style gives gorgeous separation, which is probably my #1 criteria for a mascara. It doesn’t seem to flake or smudge and is just so easy to use. I reach for this mascara most days because I don’t have to carefully apply it or worry about clumps whatsoever.
RCMA Liquid Concealer
RCMA is a makeup artist industry standard. I’ve used their cream foundation palettes for the entirety of my 9+ year makeup career for very good reason. The brand hadn’t released new products for decades, and then came this concealer, and a liquid version of their foundation. I’m completely impressed with this concealer.
I’ve enjoyed using it personally, as well as on clients, and am amazed at the skin-like finish, coverage and minimal creasing when a small amount is used. I am slowly stocking my kit with more shades because I’m pretty sure it just kicked Kevyn Aucoin The Etherealist out.
NYX Bare With Me Cannabis Sativa Seed Oil Lip Conditioner
This lip product has been living in my car, therefore, it’s being frequently applied to my lips. It smells like a lollipop to me, feels hydrating and is enjoyable to apply. Described as a lip conditioner, I’d describe this as a clear lip oil/gloss hybrid. This has been a constant throughout my life in August.
Makeup By Mario Master Mattes Palette
I know a product is good when I take it on a trip. Believe it or not, I try to pack as light as possible on the makeup front. I took this matte shadow palette on a trip to Chicago and it was all I needed. I was able to quickly create polished, day time and night time looks-thanks to the no fallout. I also did my mom’s eye makeup with it and managed to slap eye looks on her faster than ever. See my full Makeup by Mario review here.
August Non Beauty Favorites
I first tried this at a Jeni’s in Chicago. It changed my life. You can find pints at Whole Foods.
I have loved using this little retro looking waffle iron! I use the Kodiak Cakes Carb Conscious Mix.
Read the reviews; I agree. These work. I take them when I have tons of emails to get through.
See ya next round. I already have a short list of what will make my September favorites and we’re only 6 days in. What can I say; I love a good distraction from the world.
