Florasis is NOT Cruelty-Free!
Florasis allows its products to be tested on animals when required by law.
Florasis’s Animal Testing Policy
On Florasis’s website, they claim to encourage the use of alternatives to animal testing and that they do not test on animals unless required by law.
See below for a screenshot of what’s currently stated on Florasis’s website:
Considering Florasis is a Chinese-based cosmetics company and China still requires some cosmetics to be tested on animals by law, it’s reasonable to assume Florasis is not cruelty-free.
But Doesn’t China No Longer Tests on Animals?
Companies can bypass China’s pre-market animal testing by choosing to manufacture its ordinary or general cosmetics in China, but it’s not stated anywhere that Florasis has taken this route.
I tried asking Florasis about this but they responded back with something similar to what’s stated on their website’s FAQ:
“Florasis is committed to eliminating animal tests. We are the advocates and doers of banning animal tests on cosmetics. Unless otherwise required by law, we do not test any products on animals.“
Even if Florasis’s general cosmetics were manufactured in China, the possibility of post-market animal testing is not completely ruled out and may be conducted on some cosmetics sold in physical stores in China.
Follow the infographic below to understand China’s current animal testing laws.
Although Florasis may not be conducting these animal tests themselves, they knowingly allow Chinese authorities to test their products on animals when required by law.
For those reasons, we would not consider Florasis to be cruelty-free by our standards.
At ethical elephant, we always assess a company’s cruelty-free policy using our Cruelty-Free Checklist. This ensures no animal testing was performed by the brand itself, its suppliers, and by any third parties, including when required by law.
See below for our complete cruelty-free checklist. Because Florasis has already admitted they do not meet the last two, we cannot classify the brand as being cruelty-free.
Is Florasis Certified Cruelty-Free?
Florasis is not certified cruelty-free by any third-party cruelty-free certifications like Leaping Bunny or PETA.
Because Florasis is not certified cruelty-free by a third party, no one is looking into or substantiating Florasis’s cruelty-free commitments and claims.
Is Florasis Vegan?
Since we would not consider Florasis to be cruelty-free as their products are tested on animals when required by law, we also wouldn’t consider anything sold or manufactured by Florasis to be vegan.
In order for products to be considered vegan by ethical elephant’s standards, the products and their ingredients must not be tested on animals anywhere in the world. Also, they must not contain any animal-derived ingredients or by-products.
